Facts About Foster Care

​

* Foster care is a temporary arrangement in which adults provide for the care of a child or children whose birthparent is unable to care for them

 

  • There are over 437,000 children and youth in foster care.
     

  • Only about 50% of those who age out of care will obtain a high school diploma.

​

  • 97% of children in foster care will not graduate from college.                                   

  • 40% will experience homelessness
